No prize, please ! Have no room in this house for "idols" of any variety ... which reminds me , there has been no mention of The American One!
Just wanted to respond to # 9 NTM ? Just watched the very young and attractive Meryl and the very young and EXTREMELY handsome RR in this flick the other afternoon, and want to know from whence she reads at Denys' funeral ?
(my verification reads : billycor ... who's he ?)
crap. I wanted the prize.
Arbor Day????? Guess that lets all of us off the hook regarding Christmas, birthday, any other gift giving occasion !!!!
Ever been lost? HA! Let me count the times....oh wait, I can't count THAT high !
Linda,
The poem is called "To An Athlete Dying Young" and is by A. E. Housman. Meryl doesn't read all the poem - just a couple of verses.
Here's the whole poem:
To an Athlete Dying Young
The time you won your town the race
We chaired you through the market-place;
Man and boy stood cheering by,
And home we brought you shoulder-high.
To-day, the road all runners come,
Shoulder-high we bring you home,
And set you at your threshold down,
Townsman of a stiller town.
Smart lad, to slip betimes away
From fields were glory does not stay
And early though the laurel grows
It withers quicker than the rose.
Eyes the shady night has shut
Cannot see the record cut,
And silence sounds no worse than cheers
After earth has stopped the ears:
Now you will not swell the rout
Of lads that wore their honours out,
Runners whom renown outran
And the name died before the man.
So set, before its echoes fade,
The fleet foot on the sill of shade,
And hold to the low lintel up
The still-defended challenge-cup.
And round that early-laurelled head
Will flock to gaze the strengthless dead,
And find unwithered on its curls
The garland briefer than a girl's.
Mom, are you referring to ME being lost? I very rarely get lost. You may not have known where I was, but I wasn't lost.
Loved your answer of favorite foods - Potatoes are truly the food of the Gods... I'm here to let you know your list came as far northwest as Olympia... Portland Smortland.... Love ya!
